ANP stands for A New Psalm.

The name was inspired by the Psalms of David, who spent every single one of his moments in reflection with God. David is known as the man after God's own heart, and we see that throughout the Psalms.

Oftentimes, when we think about David, we think about David and Goliath. We think about him establishing the kingdom. However, we don't often talk about the years of anguish, the years of turmoil and confusion, the messiness and murkiness, the gratitude, the victory, and the praise that truly encompass one's day-to-day life.

David showed us what it looked like to be in deep relationship with God in every single moment. He invited God into his anger, into his sin, into his grief. He invited God into his praise and into his happiness.

I believe David was an example.

The Psalms are holy, and they're beautifully written, but they're also shown to us so they can be an example of what it looks like to have a very deep, personal relationship with God. The Bible calls David a man after God's own heart, and we're all called to be after His heart. We're called to have no other god besides Him. We're told that He is a jealous God, and that we are to have intimate communication with Him.

You can't have intimacy without intentional exploration of emotion and thought. You can't have intimacy without consistency in everyday moments and everyday life.

Nowadays it's really easy to have a very skewed vision of what a good life is supposed to look like because we're aiming for one emotion—happiness—when we were actually created to experience all emotions.

In experiencing all of them, we also get to experience the depth and beauty of our relationship with God because we see how He shows up for us in every single one of those moments, seasons, and emotions.

That's very healing because instead of thinking that God is only found in happiness, you begin to realize how present He truly is.

Life itself is not stable. Our emotions are reactive, and anything in a moment can shift our feelings, our perceptions, and our understanding. But when you are anchored in God, it brings stability and a foundation to a life that is otherwise extremely volatile.

That is the heart behind the name A New Psalm.

We want people to think of their lives as a continuous journey with God and, because of that, to think of their own emotions and moments as psalms.

Every moment where you reflect, where you speak, where you're talking to God, you're speaking a psalm.

It doesn't have to be beautifully poetic.

When you bring it before Him, it is divine, it is holy, and it is intimate.

A New Psalm is the belief that your relationship with God isn't confined to Sunday mornings or mountaintop moments. It is built in the ordinary moments of everyday life—in joy, grief, celebration, disappointment, gratitude, anger, hope, waiting, and wonder.

Every honest conversation with God becomes another verse in the story He is writing through your life.

Every day is an opportunity to write A New Psalm.
